Despite having a bit of a thing for high end lipsticks, I do love a good beauty bargain. And they don’t get much more bargainous than Essence. It’s hard to find a product over a fiver in their entire range, and their stands are always a point of call for me any time I go near a Wilko. I’ve picked out three of my top product picks, so if you’ve not tried the brand before, or aren’t sure where to start, you really can’t go wrong with one of these.

The Gel Polish – with over 40 shades to choose from, you’re guaranteed to find something that floats your boat. The formula of these gel effect polishes is super glossy, reasonably quick to dry and lasts really well when used with their gel effect top coat. I rarely get more than 2 days wear out of a normal polish, but these usually last 3-4 days on me and for £1.60 each I’d recommend stocking up.

All About…Eyeshadow Palettes – budget eye shadow palettes are becoming a big thing, especially with companies like Makeup Revolution on the scene. Essence have a much smaller range, but the two I’ve tried are perfect for everyday use. Each palette features eight shades of eye shadow – I have 02, which has a more traditional nude range and the 01 with a stronger focus on bronze tones. I love the fact that these are a bit smaller than many of their competitors; you might get slightly less product but it’s actually the perfect size to keep in your on the go makeup bag. They’re lovely and soft, blend really well and not too glittery despite consisting of mainly shimmery shades. £4

Sheer and Shine Lipstick  - a decent lippie from a budget brand is a hard thing to find – I’ve tried so many with horrible waxy finishes and weird tastes to them. The Sheer and Shine range from Essence give a sheer wash of colour to the lips, with a hydrating formula you can wear all day. 06 Frosted is my favourite shade at the moment as it’s one of those ‘my lips but better’ lippies you can chuck on without a mirror and not worry about smearing colour all over your face. That said, they do have 11 other shades to choose from, so there are plenty of choices if you want something a little more colourful. £2
